Whew!! So so good, Myleik! I love your line "Discipline will faithfully multiply whatever you point it toward.". This was a different perspective--never looked at it the way you described. It even seems to be a harder discipline to execute. Like, the discipline of journaling 3 pages each morning VS the discipline to speak up in your friendships, partnerships and relationships instead of holding everything in--hijacking your nervous system just to keep the peace or not be "too much"! You're so right, no one really talks about THAT discipline--it's not usually accompanied by celebratory sensations, more like shitty ones.

Because THAT discipline is much harer and like you said, nobody’s really cheering you on for that. It’s HARD.

Gosh, this was so good. It resonates with me especially now as I am ruthlessly and forensically auditing where my my attention and energy need to go in this season of my life. The part about discernment preceding discipline is golden. Thank you for this perspective.

“…becoming honest about the kind of life I wanted.” This is it. Entering crone-dom and yet another chapter of my life, I had to decide where from here. This time based not on need, but what I truly wanted. When you give yourself permission to choose yourself, life becomes thrilling.

What struck me most was the distinction between discipline and discernment. Discipline can help us climb the mountain. Discernment helps us decide whether the mountain is worth climbing in the first place.

This was eye-opening. I enjoyed reading this very much. I used to have a lot of discipline in my teenage years but life caused that discipline to crumble as I entered young adulthood & I encountered things I didn’t have the experience to navigate. I am now focused on learning how to pause & reflect consistently. Appreciate, honor & make space for my need to always ask “Why,” even when the world tells me not to.

I decided that I wanted to be devoted as opposed to disciplined. I found that discipline can get shit done but it doesn’t offer a certain level of discernment and what I need. Devotion, particularly self-devotion asks questions of me to make sure this is aligned. It requires me to be tender with myself.
